About the Image(s)

Another photo of my birds of the Serengeti and wish I could identify these ones! They look so pretty with their ruffled neck feathers. Taken towards sunset I think
as they were bathing in the warm sunshine while we went by in our vehicle. Shot with my Canon 5D Mark IV 1/125 F5.6 ISO100. Put into Topaz Denoise and lighten the image by moving the sliders
in LR. Cropped in also.

You peeked my curiosity in what this bird is so I went on a Google search. I think it is a D'Arnaud's Barbet. Look it up and see what you think. Wikipedia has a nice picture of it. Anyway, I think you captured a nice composition of this pair. Great catch light in the eye and they seem intent on something in the distance. I like that the top bird has his tail flicked up as it adds interest. I think you could lighten the overall picture just a little as it seems a bit dull. I think cropping a little more off the top would put more emphasis on the birds. A great find and capture.   Posted: 02/06/2025 01:18:05

Thanks Pamela that is definitely D'Arnaud's Barbet! I lost track of how many birds we saw so it was difficult when i got back to look through my photos. Yes agree a bit dull so i lightened it as you all suggested and looks nice now so thank you.   Posted: 02/14/2025 18:14:30

"What she said!" :) I agree with Pamela and also looked the bird up and she nailed the ID. Great composition but agree that the image is slightly underexposed.   Posted: 02/06/2025 10:49:41

These birds make me smile. They look like they are watching the Super Bowl. I would add a bit more exposure as Pamela and Mike suggested.   Posted: 02/10/2025 21:26:54

Yes they are totally focused on something!   Posted: 02/14/2025 18:16:24

I think this image is strong primarily for two reasons: 1.) the warm side light is beautiful and brings out the texture of the feathers, and 2.) the elements form a triangle which I believe creates a very stong composition. The background is complementary and free from distractions. I agree with the others that incrasing the exposure a bit would improve the image. Nice work.   Posted: 02/12/2025 15:18:09

What a great image, I love the warm light on the left side of the top bird's head and back, so beautiful. Consider just adding some exposure to the bird on the right and leaving the bird on the left as is and see what you think. Well done.   Posted: 02/12/2025 19:48:53

Love the birds. My initial thoughts in viewing this image was that it needed to be brightened up a bit. Then reading the previous comments that seems to be the suggestion of most everyone. I think your cropping is excellent and the catch light in the eyes enhances the highlights of the birds. I am also glad that they were identified for you.   Posted: 02/18/2025 14:51:10
