About the Image(s)

This image was taken in April 2022 on a photo workshop in Yosemite National Park. We shot these waterfalls/cascades early in the morning. For me either zooming in for a tight shot or cropping tight shows the intimate nature of the falling water over the rocks. Taken with my Sony 7RM3, Sony 70-300mm lens. ISO 100, 1/10 sec at f/10 using a tripod. It was processed in ON1 Photo RAW 2022. Altough I didn't convert the image to B&W it is a basic monotone image. My usual processing is to set the black and white points and to add dynamic contrast and sharpening. I'm not sure if I did anything else.

I think you chose the perfect shutter speed - at least for my tastes - to get the water silky smooth. That is often tricky to do without blowing out highlights, but I think you have nailed it. I like the crop because it leaves a little bit of the rock on the left and right to frame it but it does not overwhelm the center of interest. My only suggestion (clearly a nit-pick) is to take a closer look at the endge of the rock on the left. I believe there is a slight halo or chromatic aberation which can be easily removed.   Posted: 01/12/2025 15:18:29

Thank you for your comments. I will look more closely at the rock you mentioned.   Posted: 01/12/2025 21:12:40

This image captures and conveys to me a softness in the flow of the water..alot of different levels to look at. The rocks add dimension and contrast well with the water. I might have chosen the original crop to elongate the flow but i like your square crop version too.   Posted: 01/13/2025 22:50:50

Wonderful image. I like both your crop and the original but agree with Ally regarding the original. To my taste I think there are a few areas around the center of the water that are too sharp and have taken some of the charm from the effect of your shutter speed. They also, to me, don't blend well with the areas adjacent to them. Nice one!   Posted: 01/14/2025 23:50:16

I find this image fascinating. Personally, I enjoy the sharp focus on the rocks with the water cascading around them. From my perspective, you took a common waterfall scene and made it unique. I wouldn't change a thing.   Posted: 01/15/2025 19:44:20
