Sony 7r v, and Tamron 25-200. Camera Settings: ISO = 250, F/13, 1/250.
Went to Oregon the first week in April to a tulip farm. Unfortunately it was too early and many of the tulips were not in bloom. For me the story is the lonely blooming tulip among hundreds that have not yet bloomed. I wonder what triggered this one to bloom and not the others. To nt blow out the whites din the sky I took 2 images, one metered on the sky and the other on the vegetation, then merged them in Photoshop. I also edited this in black and white, but I think I like the color version better.

You had a very good idea to bracket the exposure to get both the sky and field properly exposed. The sky takes a little of my attention away from the solidary tulip. When I cropped out 2/3rds of the sky, my attention went to the tulip. It is all a mattter of what you intended the viewer to see. I like the camera position low to show the tulip fields. I will try to follow your example to tone down the sky a bit in my images. Well done! Posted: 08/03/2026 17:13:02

Stephanie, timing is everything ( I think that's a show biz expression..) You still did nice work with what you were presented with. I agree with Richard. Cropping in on the lonesome Tulip would be good. I do like the image as is. My eye does return to the lone flower and the sky does dwarf it. There is a story in that! Posted: 08/19/2026 01:34:33

Stephanie, I am going to be the odd man out! I like it exactly the way it is. To me it is a landscape where your eye goes to the yellow tulip first then enjoy the beauty going back. Great example of the rule of thirds. Very surprised that this image is as sharp and detailed as it is being your DPI is 72 and your size is small at 187KB.
