VERMONT by Jamie Federick

April 2026 - VERMONT

About the Image(s)

I took this photo in Vermont in 2020 at the Von Trapp garden. It is apply named "Vermont Hollyhock". The garden was lovley and the color of the hollyhock was so dramatic. I wish the sky had been blue for the background. Taken with my Canon EOS Rebel T6i.

Jamie, I think you using selective focus, probably a big F-stop really worked in this image. The first foot or so is extremely sharp and then it fades to the horizon. The Hollyhock is amazing. The only thing that I feel could use some work is the bright bland sky. Hope you don't mind but I added a sky (not my best job) and I think it is better. What do you think? Does it take away from the gorgeous flowers?   Posted: 04/07/2026 23:09:49

Thank you for your kind comments. I like the idea of the sky having color but your sky looks too stormy and busy. You could not see the mountains in your sky. Also, it was a pretty day and the sky was a light blue. Thanks for trying!!! I will take to Photoshop and try!   Posted: 04/07/2026 23:55:16

Jamie, I don't like my sky either.   Posted: 04/08/2026 00:32:41

I like the vibrant colors. The fall off in focus is quite smooth and adds interest to your intended subject. The perspective is interesting. You could replace the sky in PS or just slect the sky in LR and change white balance toward blue.   Posted: 04/08/2026 00:31:19
