STONY SHAPE by Donald Darling Jr

December 2025 - STONY SHAPE

About the Image(s)

Taken from a stony beach in Lubec Maine with my D750 and 28 - 105 lens. I used a preset in my Nikon NX Studio to do the black and white conversion and it looked good to me. I'll be curious about anyones comments.

The photo is technically well executed. I would look at rotating the image with the darkest side on the bottom to ground the image. If you had an odd number of stones, the image may be less confusing to me. It is still interesting!   Posted: 12/08/2025 21:21:14

Richard, thank you for your comments and suggestion! I didn't consider emphasizing elements in three's, though that is sensible. Thank you.   Posted: 12/13/2025 20:39:25

Hi Donald, this is an image that has strength through simplicity and excellent detail. I agree with Richard that it needs an odd number of focal points. I took the liberty to add a stone. What do you think?   Posted: 12/09/2025 18:44:59

Tom, yes. That is helpful. I reedited the original to emphasize a third stone along the right of the frame.

Perhaps an improvement...!   Posted: 12/13/2025 21:10:04

A very calming composition. It makes me think about how many eons it took for that layer of quartz to be embedded in that rock.   Posted: 12/14/2025 22:23:29
