About the Image(s)

This image was taken handheld as a landscape image with OM1 Mark2 at 40mm. I was attracted to the sun in the bottom of the U shaped foliage. The metering is set at center weighted average. Camera is set at 1/80sec at f/20 and iso 200. There are lots of ways to enhance the color of the early morning sky. The original image is intended to be cropped. I choose 2 to 1.
I'd like suggestions on camera settings for sunset/sunrise images and ideas for cropping.

Richard, your crop is perfect! The number one thing I get from your image is the feel of the heat and the expanse of the land. Love the sun exploding in the V of the forest. Outstanding image. Rich to your question. I'm sure you do exactly what I do. Shooting manual, I bracket f- stops and speed. Shoot many images and hopefully some of the experiments might be better.   Posted: 07/07/2025 13:31:20

This is a lovely image. I would hate to see the skeletal form of the dead tree cropped out, it give this photo so much character.   Posted: 07/08/2025 18:43:15

Great image. I've gotten a few of similar ones and keep reusing them as I love the results.   Posted: 07/15/2025 12:18:02

Richard,

Wow! You images suggests a hot day is coming. The deep red color with the gradient to yellow-orange at the top is striking.

I don't have any special advice for camera settings. As Tom suggested, manual exposure and bracketing is the way to go. That would create more time commitment in post processing to cull frames out and evaluate the remaining frames, but you'd stand a better chance of "hitting" on an image you really like.   Posted: 07/15/2025 14:42:58
