OLD CHROME by Donald Darling Jr

January 2025 - OLD CHROME

About the Image(s)

Taken this past November from a derelict vehicle parked in a farm field in Hudson, Maine. I used my 50 Z with a 16 to 55 kit lens as 24 mm. Iso was 800 with a 1/250 second exposure at f11. I bought the file into Elements 2023 and cloned out some distracting elements then desaturated the image and increased the contrast a little. Cropped the image and sharpened with the high pass filter. This is the hood ornament from the old Ford I submitted to this group in December.

Donald, love the simplicity and detail. Also low key was definitely the way to go. This image is very striking.   Posted: 01/03/2025 15:57:07

Tom, thank you! I was pretty impressed with the condition of the car. It's a 1950-something Ford. I'm not sure how long it's been sitting outside. It's in pretty fair shape for a car or that age.

Anyway, the shape of the ornament did catch my eye and the condition of the chrome was somewhat striking.

I appreciate your comment!

Love it. You caught the shadings on the image right on and not "framing" it was a real plus! Well done as usual.   Posted: 01/07/2025 14:02:17

Bev, thank you for the comments. It's an interesting thing that this location was more or less known to me for a decade, but I never worked up the initiative to drive out there. Only a 30 minute drive.....   Posted: 01/07/2025 19:22:42

Jamie, sorry for the tardy reply. Thank you for your comment. I am anxious to go back if/when we get some snow. I'm thinking some of the other old relics on that property could make for very interesting subjects with snow as an image element.

Thanks again!   Posted: 01/17/2025 16:24:10
