SURFING COSTA RICA by Tom Buckard

January 2025 - SURFING COSTA RICA

About the Image(s)

A few years ago, we were visiting Costa Rico near a little town called Jaco where the surf is always up. Some of the surfers were getting amazing rides and photographers were getting amazing images.

Shot with a Nikon D800, exposure at 1/3200th of a second, F8, focal length 400 mm, Nikkor 80-400 lens and ISO 100

Right on. However, I'm going to suggest a minor adjustment that focuses a bit more on the surfer. What do you think?   Posted: 01/07/2025 14:22:07

Bev, I agree with you and I wanted to crop it a lot closer. My problem was that I was standing in the water and the waves were way out. My telephoto was an 80 - 400 and I was at my maximum focal length of 400. When I blew the surfer up the sharpness and quality was very poor so I left it alone. Unfortunately, it is what it is.   Posted: 01/07/2025 18:35:13

Tom, outstanding. I like the action and the color of the water. Bev is right, a closer crop boosts the impact nicely. Good work!!   Posted: 01/07/2025 19:38:04

That was a very hard photo to take because of the distance and loss of sharpness. You do great work though and you always make lemonade out of lemons. Like it!!!   Posted: 01/11/2025 21:17:21

I have recently bought a extremely sharp, fast and longer lens. Wish I had it when I was in Costa Rica. Thank you for your comments Jamie.   Posted: 01/13/2025 16:31:20
