This photo was captured very late in the day on safari. My OM 1 Mark 2 was set at 1/15 sec, f5, iso 4000 and +3 EV exposure bias with the 150-400 Pro zoomed out to 400mm. Not exactly the perfect settings but what I needed to do to take the shot. Part of my goal was to see how far I could push my new equipment.
Of course the image is somewhat soft but the eyes were pretty good. So I took the photo into Photoshop and adjusted levels, curves, tone, contrast and color. Then I selected Filter> Filter Gallery> Cutout> level 6, edge simplicity 0 and edge fidelity 0.
The resulting image is out of the box of me. So does the image work for you? Any suggestions for alternative processing techniques for me to explore within PS?

Richard, I really like it. To me it looks like a water color then you get to the eyes and it brings you back to reality. I am glad you kept the eyes realistic and piercing. You used a lot of interesting techniques and I applaud you. Very well done. Posted: 01/02/2025 01:11:24

Richard, both images appeal to me. I'm impressed you can push your gear the way you did and get the result you got. I also like your processed image. I'm in agreement with Bev on the "dark" ear. I appreciate you eyes on this photo. I did go back to the original images and clone some lighter hair over the dark ear. I tried to process with the same filter cut out settings. Here is an example of what PS created. More exploration warranted. Thak you for very useful feedback.

Richard, I for one really like your mail CUT OUT LION image. To me the eyes are the focal point then left ear that starts your eyes panning though the image toward the gray. Really like it. Posted: 01/11/2025 14:09:10

Richard...I love what you did to it. The fest ear adds some interest to me. I would not change a thing...the colors look great and I would hang in on one of my walls for sure probably on canvas. Posted: 01/11/2025 21:09:52
