aken this November in Hudson, Maine. A property owner set up a replica of an old gas station and populated the property with a number of vehicles that are well past their useful days. This Ford caught my eye. The image was captured with my Z50 and a Tokina 12 - 24 lens at 12 mm. The exposure was 1/60 second and f18 ISO 3200 hand held. I did post in Adobe Elements by boosting the contrast of the image, using the selection brush to highlight a tree stem the the background that had fallen and darkened it to reduce its prominence in the frame. I then desaturated the image.
I should mention, the property owner did a heck of a job with the gas station replica (to appear in a future image). He used old barn boards salvaged from some demolition and built something that appeared to have been on the property for many. many decades when in truth it's only been eleven years since construction!

I am a fan of old cars. This one has character with chrome bumpers and some paint wearing off. I like the idea of boosting the contrast. I like the whites to be white and the blacks to be black. Good idea to darken the fallen tree. Interesting photo!   Posted: 12/06/2024 00:52:18

Richard, thank you! Generally speaking, I am impressed with how some of these old vehicles hold up out in the weather all the time. I appreciate your comments!   Posted: 12/10/2024 19:06:29

Donald, Like the image being B&W and being smack dab in the middle. Good visual impact and interest. Have you ever been to Old Car City in White, Georgia. You would love it but plan to spend a day or more there.   Posted: 12/08/2024 17:00:09

Yom, thank you! I've only been to Georgia a couple of times to visit a relative. I have heard of Old Car City and would like to get there some day. There's a semi abandoned junkyard an hour west of me that I keep meaning to go to. Need to get off my duff given how interesting abandoned things are!   Posted: 12/10/2024 19:10:33

I really love photos like this and especially in black and white. Several people in our club in Hot Springs Village, AR have submitted some like this and I am always particle to them.
Great job!!!   Posted: 12/10/2024 21:29:18

Jamie, thank you. I think there is a draw to old machines that were once very important and necessary. Then become useless and abandoned, but don't go away!   Posted: 12/21/2024 21:15:46

Excellent image. Love the grainy, grungy look. Your edits certainly helped make the automobile the focus of your images. Well done you.   Posted: 12/11/2024 20:44:05

Stewart, thank you so much for the feedback. I don't do a lot of black and white editing and I appreciate your feedback.   Posted: 12/21/2024 21:18:00
