About the Image(s)

I captured this image during a visit to the Houston Zoo. This pair of elephants, a mother and her child, seems to be interacting. While it might appear that they were fighting for the hay, the reality was quite different. The mother, on the left, was actually feeding hay to her child, and the child reacted by grabbing the mother's trunk.

Camera: Lumix G9 with Leica 50-200 mm lens
Aperture: f/8.0, Shutter: 1/320 sec, ISO: 320, Focal length: 133 mm
Mode: Aperture priority, Metering: Spot.

The interating of the two elephants really makes this image. The tight crop works well and the image has a lot of texture. I think there's a little bit of blue or cyan in the color, but overall, a really nice image.   Posted: 08/08/2026 15:35:59

Great catch Tom. You really caught it at the precise moment of feeding. Image has great visual impact and interest and like Sharlana said, it really tells a story. Your crop is perfect. Well done.   Posted: 08/11/2026 16:00:31
