Mirrored Sculpture by Charles Bartolotta

July 2026 - Mirrored Sculpture

About the Image(s)

This image Is considerably different than those that I’ve posted in past months. In our camera club monthly competition, we have a “Creative” category in addition to the usual color and monochrome categories. The “Creative” category affords the opportunity to do something different and fun with our images. This image was shot in the AKG Gallery in Buffalo, New York a few months ago. The original image is of a large sculpture of what appears to be pear or a pepper that is in gold with vertical rows of various sized black dots. The sculpture sits in an area that is along the glass exterior walls. I cropped out everything from the right-hand side of the image, duplicated the cropped image, reversed it and attached it as a mirrored image to the original cropped image. From there I applied Topaz Studio 2 filters. Then in Photoshop, I did some saturation. I also used Aurora HDR and Topaz Sharpening to finish off the image. This is not the kind of thing that everyone likes, but I find it a nice variation from my normal photographic endeavors. I’ll be interested in any comments (positive or negative).

Your photo inspired a new title: 'Two gods in a crystal altar '. I love the image and the treatment of your "Creative" opportunity.   Posted: 07/03/2026 21:14:12

Charles - you do amazing editing work and this is very creative. Did you get first place in your club?   Posted: 07/05/2026 14:44:18

Hi Sharlana. Not to brag, but I did ger first place in color prints and mono prints. I also got first place in colpr print of the year and mono print of the year. But I have to admit taht we don't have many people competing in the print category any more. The embarrasing part was thay I was the Print Chairman so I had to hand out the awards at our banquet: all of them to myself. And thanks for your compliment.   Posted: 07/05/2026 15:12:42

Charles, this is an incredibly creative image that truly showcases your expert editing skills. It is absolutely beautiful, and I really appreciate you taking the time to explain how you created it. The symmetry is perfect, and the overall visual impact is stunning. Outstanding work!   Posted: 07/12/2026 16:30:10
