About the Image(s)

Spirit of Annie Bonner McClendon played by Tammy Hurley

Photograph made on Saturday, 21 March 2026

The Spirits of Oakwood is an annual event to raise funds to repair broken monuments and other improvements within the Oakwood Cemetery. This event is held in conjunction with the Tyler Azalea and Spring Flower Trails. Members of the Oakwood Cemetery Restoration Committee play the spirits of people who are buried in Oakwood Cemetery and speak about their accomplishments while they were living. The spirits dress in period attire and sometimes use props like the deceased used.

Tammy Hurley is the wife of Michael Hurley who is the current adjutant of the Walker’s Greyhounds Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #2338 in Tyler, Texas.

Annie Bonner McClendon was a Charnwood Academy alumna and daughter of Judge Micajah Bonner who became a staunch advocate for women’s rights and a driving force in Tyler’s early literary and social clubs.

Keith, if this image doesn't tell a story nothing does. Image has good visual impact and is perfectly cropped. Slightly crooked so I straightened it using the Adams tomb stone. Very sharp and well taken.   Posted: 04/08/2026 14:51:43

Keith I can tell you I just wanted to hear what she was saying. Her expression leads you into the story.   Posted: 04/09/2026 19:30:41

This is a very interesting image, Keith. I think you got just the right depth of field with the important monuments sharp and the background soft. My only suggestion from a processing point of view would be to select the (white) table cloth and remove the blue cast which is coming from being in the shadow.   Posted: 04/10/2026 20:02:55
