Rick's Rainbow by Susan Lurie

March 2025 - Rick's Rainbow

About the Image(s)

I captured the image at the end of a storm while traveling with two photographer friends in southern Utah in the San Rafael Swell last October. A full arc is somewhat of a rarity, so we were doing some hooting and hollering and thoroughly enjoying the scene as the rainbow intensified before fading. One of those friends, Rick, died two days before Christmas after being struck by a car while crossing a street in St. Louis. I named it Rick's Rainbow as a tribute to him. The details: Shot with a Canon R6, RF 24-105 lens; ISO 125, 28mm, f/11, 1/250 sec. Some cropping and some dodging and burning to amplify and further separate the rainbow from the dark background. The spot of sunlight on the low ridge almost centered under the arc was a serendipitous extra touch to the scene.

Susan, I'm sorry for your loss. Capturing a full rainbow is no easy task, and you did it beautifully. Your post-processing has really brought out the distinct layers of the rainbow. Well done!   Posted: 03/11/2025 07:41:21

How fortunate to have been able to capture the entire rainbow. Those opportunities come once in a lifetime. Very nice.   Posted: 03/17/2025 13:55:02
