Dancing Camera by Jerry Hug, APSA

September 2023 - Dancing Camera

About the Image(s)

I was at a local 4th of July Parade and caught the woman dressed as a Camera dancing. She had music playing inside the costume. The boy was afraid of the dancing Camera and was running away. I converted from color to B/W with Snapseed.

An interesting catch with a great story. Would fit in a photo journalism category. The flag is in a great place to help pull in the viewer but does not distract, a triangle effect. The sidewalks also create a triangle and leading lines that lead well to the composition.

I can think of nothing to adjust or change.   Posted: 09/06/2023 09:28:51

Jerry a good story here - I must sympathize with the young boy in trying to get away from the camera woman! The whites on the gloves and the 'lens' draw the eye in and the shape of the grass around her provide good leading lines. At first I questioned the white car however it does off set the figure well. A good bit of street photography story telling.   Posted: 09/06/2023 16:53:17

Great story telling picture and interesting comments.
Of course the triangle with the flag is interesting and composed the picture, and the sidewalks are leading lines.
As the boy is smiling, it really tells something (fun, afraid, ...).
The white can be a "disturbing" element for a contest, but it is part of the street life.   Posted: 09/07/2023 02:15:12

What a lovely image and a great Street scene image, I must admit I think the mouth on the costume looks a bit stupid and is in a bit of a funny place. But the scene is a joy.   Posted: 09/14/2023 05:53:52

A great me, the expression on the boy is priceless. You could have a totally different picture by cropping left, cropping her out and focusing on the boy running. The texture on the brick house makes it so much more interesting than if it was just a house with siding. The flag and the reflection add to the house's interest.   Posted: 09/14/2023 13:23:48

Interesting street shot that tells a story. Like the leading of the sidewalk that carries my eye back to the flag. Technically well done, but a bit "busy" for my eye. I'm partial to simplicity in black and white images.   Posted: 09/16/2023 10:06:38
