About the Image(s)

My August entry is a composite of two of my images. I added the sky to the image. Both images are my own. I like the islands in the lake but the sky was awful. I like to add a sky with a single (or double) cloud to add interest.

Camera used was a Nikon D850, 1/60 of a sec at f/18. ISO 6, 48 mm (24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8). The composite was done in Photoshop with the remaining post processing done in Camera Raw.

I am glad you added the clouds...much more interesting! The larger cloud seems to be there to shade the larger island. Had you given thought to placing the smaller cloud directly over the smaller island?

Very soft image (sky & lake), almost minimalist. I like it.
The structure of the lake contrasts with the softness of the sky, and it is interesting.
The conversion in B&W is well done. The new sky and clouds help a lot. Good idea from you and indeed good suggestion from Paul, even if it can become quite improbable...   Posted: 08/05/2026 12:42:57

Bob, I agree with Vincent that this is a minimalist image. I think you have done a nice job of changing out the sky to add interest and it blends well with the island and water. The water feels soothing to me in that it is so smooth. I like the reflection of the island in the water. Very nice image.   Posted: 08/09/2026 22:02:41

Bob - you've got a good photographer's eye in seeing the potential from this scene! I would have passed it by!

It works because of being so simple and minimalist - as well as skilled PP work. It's calming, particularly with the flat still water.

I do wonder whether the minimalist scene may be better (or just different perhaps) with just one cloud and just one island - keeping the full width? Just an idea!   Posted: 08/10/2026 16:41:33

This is a good image trying to be great and with one simple movement it will be. There are many powers in photography and one of them is the power of triangle's. If you remove that small cloud and just have the two island and one cloud whatch the image strength change. Also lower the cloud a touch and crop a touch off the top. Then you have a fine art gallery image. Great eye. Can I just say, remember reflections.   Posted: 08/12/2026 09:13:09
