Cleveland Pear by Paul Smith

April 2026 - Cleveland Pear

About the Image(s)

After a too-brief rain, our trees and flowers are beginning to bloom. This Cleveland Pear blossom is almost completely white w/o any of my help. But I did touch it up via NIK Viveza desaturation. Canon 90D, Canon 24 - 105, at 100mm, f 7.1, Topaz Denoise.

Our beautiful Cherry has come and gone already, we had a wonderful week of gorgeous blooms that all of a sudden turned in the most glorious snow storm of pink and then no more for another year. This is well taken and I like your separation of the leaf's and blooms to the rest. Very pleasing image of memories that are so brief. Strong DOF.   Posted: 04/07/2026 10:39:25

I really liked your picture of the blossoms on trees, which hold their blooms for such a short amount of time. I really like the monochrome treatment of the white flowers and the black branches in background.
You said that you were desaturating the image. Did you mean to leave the green leaves with that color? It's sort of grabs my attention away from the white flowers.
However, you wish to keep it, it's an excellent image!   Posted: 04/10/2026 20:21:10

I did not intend to have any "green" remain. This is what happened when I chose not to use NIK Silver Efex. But that's what turned out
Thanks for your comments.   Posted: 04/10/2026 22:33:57

Paul, very artistic image. The background looks monochrome yet the leaves and center of blossoms are green. I know there is a way to do this in the Nik collection. It adds interest and you have captured the beauty of the blossoms. Nice bokeh, too.   Posted: 04/12/2026 22:19:20

The blossoms are indeed very blossoms.
As you didn't intent to have any green left, it explains a little the picture.
Why not to crop the upper blossom to better focused ont the center which is very sharped. Nice background.   Posted: 04/13/2026 11:08:42
