About the Image(s)

Zabriskie Point is in Death Valley. I was there two weeks ago and went to the Zabriskie Point area 3 times at sunrise during my trip. I was attracted to the light and I thought it would make a strong B&W image.
Nikon Z8, 1/320 sec at f/14, ISO 200, 101mm (Nikkor Z 24-120mm f/4 S). All post processing in Lightroom Classic.

Wonderful example of light/shadow! At first glance, I thought you were in the Badlands. Your f/14 has captured the texture nicely! Are those "hiking" paths on the ridges?   Posted: 04/03/2026 12:54:39

Thanks! Almost every where I went there were really interesting image possibilities. I really like this one because of the early morning light. I am not 100% positive on the hiking trail question but it would not surprise me. This shot was taken at an overlook very close to the main road.   Posted: 04/03/2026 13:57:26

This does make for a classic monochrome conversion, with all those light and shadow you are blessed with so much to play with for tones. You must have hundreds of images to go through, I know I would, so many different angles and if you were there for the day so many times of day. The detail is coming out well.
But I must say I do like the colour as well and hope you produce both. The colour handles the bottom left corner better than the monochrome. Great image.   Posted: 04/07/2026 10:07:00

Your courage and perseverance (3 times at sunrise) have paid off. Beautiful inn colors. Wonderful in B&W.
Our (my) eyes go everywhere in this picture to see the light and shadow on the difference mounds. Nice texture on the ground.   Posted: 04/12/2026 18:29:56

Bob, great light and shadows here along with texture. I like the composition you chose as well, leaving the space in the lower left. All the curves just lead one into the image at various places. Very nice.   Posted: 04/12/2026 21:46:20
