This photo was taken in March 2023 in Porto, Portugal. I took it while touring the Cathedral. This courtyard caught my eye as I thought it would make a good black and white image with the textures and contrasts. I used my iPhone 13 Pro Max for this entire trip. The phone did the settings automatically and were ISO 32, f/1.8, 1/460. I edited in camera raw and photoshop. As you can see from the original, the perspective is off so I did my best with the transform tool in camera raw. My question for the group is did I correct the perspective adequately? I also look forward to your comments and suggestions. I was inspired by Adrian to go back and look through my Portugal images!

I am blown away with the quality an iPhone produces. The texture and detail are exceptional. And, your PP has made this image even better. Comparing your original with this Mono, your correction of the Perspective is more than adequate. Your clouds add an extra dimension to this marvelous building. Well done   Posted: 07/07/2025 20:06:05

Paul, thank you for your comments. It is amazing what the camera on phones can capture now!   Posted: 07/07/2025 22:13:03

I must admit that I am using the phone more and more now, this has come out well, you have handled the vehicles very well and the bottom left corner extremely well. The detail in the stone work and the clouds have come across very well. That one person in the image that you don't notice straight away gives great scale. This is a strong monochrome conversion.   Posted: 07/17/2025 09:12:30

Great B&W picture, with an excellent conversion and correction of perspective. There no more comparaison between the original and the final version. Good job.
Such monument call the B&W. Good texture, nice sky and clouds.
Really well done and a beautiful picture.   Posted: 07/19/2025 15:52:26

Hi Mary - I'm glad I brought back your memories of Portugal. I haven't yet been to Porto (I'm sure I will as it often a stop for cruise ships heading from UK towards the Mediterranean or elsewhere).
This is a good wide view shot. Your perspective corrections seem good to me and you managed to retain the tower tops (often not easy). You have given us good detail in the stonework and the person on the left, yes adds scale, but also help the viewer to notice the wall detail there - that's the only benefit of the colour original showing off the blue tiles.
My only suggestion is to darken the clouds (leaving the white) to make it more dramatic - to my eye, it currently has similar tone levels as you buildings.   Posted: 07/21/2025 08:43:35

Excelent conversion. The perspective correction is right on. The details and texture in the building provides strong interest and impact. The clouds are an added bonus. I would not change a thing.   Posted: 07/22/2025 18:35:08
