About the Image(s)

Dance

Technical: 1/320, f/4,0, ISO 4000 at 116 mm (FF)

Again a picture dancer. But as I like very much, I wish to discuss it in the group. A picture taken during a representation. I find it soft and the position of the dancers is elegant. There is also a ? construction ? (wave) with the arm of the first one and the legs of the others dancers.

LR: Reduction of the noise, reduction of the highlight & clarity, a mask on the background to highlight it. Increased the exposition, the texture and dehaze.

IMV, the background is overexposed and the 1/320 shutter speed was not fast enough to prevent motion blur. That's the bad news. The good news is I enjoy your attraction to "The Dance". It seems you have caught this shot at the exact time each dancer had her left leg in the proper position to complete the Group Pose! Very clever!   Posted: 07/07/2025 20:33:25

Vincent, I am enjoying all of your dance images! I agree with Paul that the background is a little too bright. But I appreciate the "softness" of the dancers as it feels soothing and very "dancerly" I also really like the positions of their legs moving up and to the side at various points leading the eye into the right of the scene and showing the soft, silky dresses. I think if you take the brightness down of the background, this is a very nice image.   Posted: 07/07/2025 22:06:58

This is a lovely image, the shape of the ladies and perfect and work so well and light and tone are just right.
You could work on the colour version to get that right as those colour are brilliant. I agree that removing the tone from the background has made the image go flat and with a more subtle tone balance in the background the girls work even better. I have had a go to show what I mean but you will do much better with the original file.
This is a very strong image that is well worth a rework and I would love to see the result.   Posted: 07/17/2025 09:08:18

Thanks Paul (and also Paul et Mary Ann) for your comment. I wanted to have a bright background, but doing that had also an impact on the faces of the dancers.
I really like and thank for your suggestion Paul.   Posted: 07/17/2025 14:27:15

Vincent, you have timed this shot perfectly , with lovely flowing lines of the dancers in a way which creates a fabulous group together. I think this (and these) shape(s) are perfect for a soft flowing presentation which you have given us - but the contrast with the bright, clean white background fights with each other.

You have multiple shades in the original background which Paul has used to solve the background, but the soft flowing look has been lost (if you wish to retain that). Lightroom masking is so good now to select the background to work on independently to the dancers - still having the background materially white, but with the origin's shade detail giving more interest and less shark.

Lovely image this.

The flow of the dancers is strong leading right to the left and finally to the far left dancer who stops the flow and the veiwers eye, holding them in. For me the bright background is a plus and works well to emphasize the dancers. A very strong image.

The only distraction for me is the roll of curtain on the floor behind the dancers legs.   Posted: 07/22/2025 18:28:47
