About the Image(s)
This was taken near my home in Hanover, MN. It is a national historic bridge built in 1885. It is a single-lane, single-span, rivet pin-connected Pratt through a truss of iron construction with a timber deck floor. It is only used for foot traffic now. It was a sunset shoot, and I was hoping to get some good light on it. The sky was clear which for me takes away from the interest and impact. It is also small boned so to speak, so not much surface to catch the light.
I used an Olympus EM1 MKIII, Olympus 7-14mm lens at 9mm, 1/200th sec, f/11, and ISO 1250.
I worked on the composition from both ends of the bridge to find the best angle and light for the bridge. Shot both vertical and horizontal formats from mostly lower positions. I liked two images, one horizontal and one vertical. The vertical shows more detail in the bridge structure and the horizontal appears more dramatic. Let me know which you prefer.
I processed in Lightroom using several masks to adjust the highlights in the structure and the sideboards. I used the remove tool to remove the electric lines, cables, and the tree branches. Then I used Silver Efex Pro 2 to convert to B&W using preset 19.
