About the Image(s)

I used the Nikon Z9 with 28-400 lens. Settings were ISO 80, f/8, 1/200 at 58mm.

This was taken on the northern CA coast in late November. I came across this man sitting on the rocks gazing out as I walked the area with my camera and thought that he would add interest to the scene. I liked the cloudy sky but chose to crop most of it out to focus on the rocks in the foreground. I look forward to your suggestions and comments.

Job well done Mary Ann. I like the B&W version and the panoramic format is well adequate for the scene. The subject is more the rocks than the sky, even if it is a nice one.
The structure of the rocks is well done. The human presence is of course, for me, an added value to the picture.   Posted: 02/10/2025 12:51:28

I like the man on the rocks, but had difficulty distinguishing him. Can you lighten him a bit so that my eye is drawn directly to him? The textures of the rocks are wonderful. Can you work on bringing up the shadows and adding more contrast? For me, I would like to see it cropped on the left. I don't think the pano adds to the scene if the subject is the guy looking out. I just played a bit with it. My vision of your vision   Posted: 02/14/2025 17:52:15

Fran, thank you for your comments and suggestions. It looks like your edited version got deleted in error. Can you repost it? Thank you   Posted: 02/19/2025 14:09:15

This works well in B&W because there is little color except for the sky. The rocks have great detail, and there are water areas that add depth. For me, the pano effect works, and the placement of the person is very good.

Overall, it is a bit too dark, and the person blends in with the background. I would add some light to the person. I would also add some light to the water areas. Finally, I would adjust the sky by raising the highlights and lowering the shadows. All of which will add depth and contrast. See what you think   Posted: 02/18/2025 20:39:47

David, I like your edited version. It does add depth and the person is more apparent. Thank you.   Posted: 02/19/2025 14:11:34

Somehow, I removed the image from Fran. I'm not sure how; sorry.   Posted: 02/18/2025 20:43:43
