About the Image(s)

Sony a6600 ??“ Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS @ 20mm ISO100 1/2500 f5

Taken on the east end of West Wittering Beach, which is below Chichester, England. The boat sits waiting for its next use in mid afternoon sunshine. I liked the relationship with the shadows being made by the boat beside her and the relationship it had with her.

Turned monochrome in Lightroom and toned using masks is various areas, took to topaz to just touch the image to finish. And Nik to apply border only

At first look, I would have suggested a square format, but after 10 seconds I say no. There are different parts (shadow, boat and sky) and every part has its place.
The shadow has its place and makes the picture.
Tho color (dark tone) on the bottom (right on the picture, left of the boat) is almost aligned with the horizon. I have an impression of a nice continuity.   Posted: 02/10/2025 12:47:14

Beautiful tones to this photo in B&W. Good composition on lines. The only suggestion that I have is perhaps decreasing the shadows a bit. I love the tone of the sky, but the darkness of the shadows detracts from my eye focusing on it.   Posted: 02/14/2025 17:24:24

The shadows add to the story here, providing contrast and interest to the image. Shooting from way in front of the boat pulls the eye in and provides impact when viewing the boat. The conversion adds some detail to the sky, which is a plus. Removing the other boat, not mentioned, was a good choice.

I think the border is a little too wide and tends to overtake the image.   Posted: 02/18/2025 20:05:59

Paul, your image is very interesting with the shadows, textures of the rocky beach and layers of water and sky. The contrast is well done. The shadows and lines to the boat bring the eye into the frame and to the boat. Very nicely done.   Posted: 02/19/2025 14:17:21
