About the Image(s)

This is a photo of an Inupiat Elder telling stories of his childhood, taken at the Native Heritage Museum in Anchorage.
While the color version is interesting, I thought that Black and White would focus more on him.

Processed in Silver Efex Pro, I used a High Key filter.

Fran, you have captured this Inupiat Elder's delight in telling his childhood stories. The expression on his face and hands say it all. It works very well in high key monochrome as, I agree, it focuses on him. The composition is well done as his eyes are looking to his right and you have left space there for the gaze. Very nicely done.   Posted: 01/13/2025 19:32:24

I like your own comment and agree with.
The color version is indeed interesting (information about the culture), but the B&W one will focus more on him.
The B&W is more softened and we are not "disturbed" by the color (Elliott Erwitt...). We go directly to his face and his eyes. Interesting position of his right arm.   Posted: 01/13/2025 20:18:47

This is a lovely capture of the Inupiat Elder, the detail and posture is spot on and that smile is going to grab any viewer. The black and white version is a joy, but I would work on the colour version as a big part of the image is that costume and with some tonal work that image could pop.
Very strong image.   Posted: 01/16/2025 10:41:09
