About the Image(s)

DJI Mini 4 Pro, Lens 24.0mm f1.7, Exposure 1/60,ISO 100, Auto white balance. Taken in the Central Highlands of Iceland with a small DJI drone.

This image was taken near the Landmannalaugar campsite of the braided river Tungnaa in Iceland in mid afternoon under cloudy skies.

I wanted to capture the contrasting patterns of the river. These patterns are only visible during low tide. I chose to process the image in black and white to emphasize the contrast and lines.

I did not crop the image but did add a vignette and used Lightroom to convert to black and white.

This has strong interest and impact, and the flow pulls the viewer in and through the image. The many tones and shades of white, gray, and black make it a great selection for conversion to B&W.

I am not sure if the drone was moving at the time of exposure or if the camera does not shoot sharp images, but the image overall appears more like a painting as everything appears smooth, including the mountains in the background. Except for the edges of ice in the foreground, nothing is sharp.

Still a strong image.   Posted: 11/08/2024 22:51:32

This is so well composed and the flow has been used to its upmost that it looks natural. But you could have quite easly place the camera a foot left or right and it would not have been as strong. The black and white is strong and has so many dimensions to image. It is a joy to view.
But on this occasion I have to say the colour image is a joy and wins for me, those splashes of colours just lift the image and it could be a painting. Wonderful image.   Posted: 11/11/2024 11:28:14

This is a wonderful abstract. I, too, prefer the color. I think the patterns have a deeper contrast that way. There are 2 things I would try. I would try to straighten the horizon, so that the currents flow up more easily. I feel a bit off kilter. I also would see if you prefer it flipped horizontally. Personally, I prefer the flow. I have absolutely no experience with drone photography, ( still trying to master regular photography), so I am not sure why you have the smooth texture and lack of sharpness. My preference would be to see the patterns more in focus. I think you would still have the painterly feeling.   Posted: 11/16/2024 18:57:49

I like this abstract, painterly look of this image. I find merit with both versions. The color version is more painterly whereas the black and white shows more textures. I don't have any experience with drone photography.   Posted: 11/17/2024 19:59:06

I agree with the comment of Mary.
I havo not experience of the drone. Is it more stable than we are? The low speed of 1/60 can explain the sharpness.
Just great composition(different elements).   Posted: 11/18/2024 17:37:31
