Took this a couple of weeks ago on a lovely visit to this National Trust property of this lovely garden on the edge of the Forest of Dean on the River Severn. Have not been here since the lock down started in 2019 and the last visit the hedging was dying, so it is good to see it is recovering well.
Westbury Court is one of the last surviving Dutch styles Water garden and was first laid down in 1696 and finished in 1705. It had upgrades that suited the fashions in the 18th century with the added topiary and vegetable garden. Created by the Maynard Colchester, Westbury Court was demolished in 1805 by the Colchester family who moved to a grander home in the Forest of Dean but kept the garden. But 100 years later they returned, building a new home in Westbury so they could be nearer to their beloved garden.
It is well worth a visit, especially in September when the water lilies are fully out. It also has one of the oldest trees in the UK in the giant Cedar that sits at the back of the garden and is always full of bees.

Great history and story behind the capture Paul. The building's architecture reminds me of a smaller historic Independence Hall in Philadelphia, PA. The large old tree behind the building adds visual interest to the whole composition and loosens the symmetry a bit, I think.   Posted: 09/11/2023 07:01:37

I love the balance of this image. You took it on the right position. Light was good and it's bring dimension on the trees. Nice image.   Posted: 09/14/2023 08:23:46

Nice line into the image with eh water. It feels like the image needs a bit more contrast. You see in the blues and greens at the top that there is a bit of haziness/ Maybe a small bit of Dehaze will give you the midtone contrast   Posted: 09/25/2023 09:47:08
