Purple Umbrellas in Skopje, North Macedonia by Marilyn Peake

August 2026 - Purple Umbrellas in Skopje, North Macedonia

About the Image(s)

I took this photograph on a street in Skopje, North Macedonia in September 2023. I thought the purple umbrellas against the bright blue sky were very pretty. I was there with an adventure travel group visiting Greece, Albania and North Macedonia.

I shot this handheld with a Nikon D7200, f/10, 1/400 sec., ISO-400. In Photoshop, I cropped the original photo, increased saturation and contrast, and added a slight curves adjustment.

As a photographer I love when towns do this, Worcester in England has done this with multicoloured and it does look splendid. Using single colour is also very good and dose give a very pleasing affect. But looking at the image I think you may be in middle ground, I find the two hang overs a touch to heavy and a wider shot showing more of the environment would of suited so we can see how they sit. or a slight crop so we get less of the hangovers and the collapsed umbrellas see my verions. The colours and detail are spot on and that blue is very lovely. Hope you took more than one image.   Posted: 08/12/2026 08:52:19

Thanks for the suggestions, Paul. I loved seeing all the purple/blue umbrellas, but I did wish none had collapsed.   Posted: 08/13/2026 01:15:05
