This is an image of one of the domes of St. Peter's Basilica. I am simply awed by the grandeur of these domes, the paintings and the detailed carvings. It's truly a sight to behold. I took this in color but I kind of like the black and white rendition as it truly brings out the texture and detail.

I am struck by the symmetry here, top/bottom and left/right. You did a fine job in choosing your camera angle, resulting a a beautiful composition. Your treatment of lighting is superb; lots of shadow details and a balance of light and dark. Appreciate your choice of a title for your image.
As was (rightly) noted in my October submission, including more of the scene in the top of my frame would have added to my composition; I think that might apply here also (although that may have been impossible, given the optical limitations of the lens.

First I'm a sucker for anything monochrome and I'm really glad that you didn't go color for this, the contrast between the white stone and the painting is perfect.
I also really love the asymetry between the large upper circle and the little bit of a top of another, I don't know why, only that it just FEELS right to me. Posted: 11/04/2025 22:41:55
