RUBBER PLANT by John Doyle

July 2026 - RUBBER PLANT

About the Image(s)

Please find attached my Digital Study Group image for the month of July. My image is a tall, delicate lavender bearded iris with a yellow center. A friend of mine gave me a bag of these iris bulbs several years ago, and they have now taken over the flower bed on the east side of my house. They are about 4 feet tall and very stunning, but only last for about 2 weeks. This image was take in late May with my Sony 6700 in late morning. It was shot in Aperture Priority with ISO 1000, 110 mm, f 5.6, 1/4000 sec, and mentoring mode

Simple and lovely. The complementary colors of red and green pop. Nature always has the perfect colors. Well exposed with sharp details. The lighter green strip in the center highlights the red vein and leaf sheath. I have one minor suggestion. The tip of the red sheath is crowded at the very top of the frame. It needs a little room to breathe. Perhaps you could expand the canvas a bit. Nicely done. I like it.   Posted: 07/05/2026 17:59:36

Thanks for your comment, I think you are correct. I will try to give it more room.   Posted: 07/06/2026 14:31:59

Hi John, your image of a rubber plant is very elegant and interesting. I like the highlighting along the sides of the red vein on the leaf and how it complements the more prominent highlighting on red center of the plant.   Posted: 07/09/2026 20:37:00
