ELGANT ORCHIDS by Mary Ellen Rescek

April 2026 - ELGANT ORCHIDS

About the Image(s)

This image of an orchid plant was taken in the tropical gardens of the Audubon House in Key West, Florida. The vibrant pink color really caught my eye. It was take taken with my iPhone 16 Pro; settings were f1.8, 1/200", and ISO160. Post processing was done in Photoshop and Lightroom.

I always find Orchids difficult to photograph, but you've captured the detail and colors very well.   Posted: 04/01/2026 17:10:14

I'm torn between the beauty of the color and absence of texture. Gueaa that'a why I could never pass muster to be a judge   Posted: 04/07/2026 20:37:11

Thank you Bev for your comments. They are very much appreciated. The image was taken in a courtyard outside around noon in Key West. The orchid was under a tree, but the direct sunlight may have contributed to the decreased appearance of texture.   Posted: 04/09/2026 02:28:59

This a very nice photo and the composition is very good. It looks like you stumbled upon it in the jungle.   Posted: 04/08/2026 15:49:30

I agree this is a lovely color that catches my attention and the magenta and green combo are so pleasing to me. The composition enhance this image for me and to my eye the cropping is well balanced.

Was this possibly taken in bright sunlight? I can't help butI wonder if the bright front facing light and possibly increased contrast in post processing may have contributed to reducing the appearance of texture.   Posted: 04/08/2026 18:05:32

Thank you for your comments Charissa. They are very helpful. The image was taken around noon in the court yard at the Audubon House in Key West. It was hanging under a tree, but direct sunlight, as you may have indicated, probably contributed to the decreased appearance of texture.   Posted: 04/09/2026 02:33:50

The orchid with its' buds is lovely. Nicely composed. Its' vibrant pink color pops. You can increase the texture setting in Lightroom to add more texture in the petals if you wish. Very nice image.   Posted: 04/10/2026 15:52:03
