About the Image(s)

My goal was to create a winter scene which is somewhat painterly and folk-like. Images used are the barn and cardinal. Trees and snow were created with brushes. Used a sketch filter on the barn to help define the barn

Suzy a very warm welcome to our group even though you start with a wintry image!
You have certainly achieved your goal with an arreting image. Your work drawing the trees is excellent and would probably been overlooked had you not alerted us. Perhaps there is too much cloud at the top and I would be inclined to crop down a lttle. Your three cardinals are a little lost; could they be a touch larger with perhaps one on the snow where it would stand out?

Thank you for the "warm" welcome! The trees and snow are actually brushes- are those allowed here? Thank you for your comments- I'm looking forward to reworking my image with your suggestions.   Posted: 01/11/2025 03:18:44

Brushes have always been a part of the creative toolbox, so no problem there. I just wish I could use them as effectivly as you.   Posted: 01/11/2025 11:32:53

Welcome. I have never explored brushes properly. Did you make these yourself? A cracking image perfect for a greetings card.   Posted: 01/21/2025 18:08:30

You can download images from Photoshop. The trees are created from brushes called "concept" brushes. You can also create your own brushes. (see comment I left for Bob Wills) Brushes are soooo much fun!   Posted: 01/22/2025 02:02:54

Suzy, I think you successfully completed your goal of a winter scene. I would love this for a Christmas card. All you would have to do is put a big green wreath on the old barn. I agree with Ian that there is a little to much cloud at the top. Maybe crop 1/3 off. This is a very original approach and quite striking.   Posted: 01/18/2025 01:40:41

Thank you for your comments. When I work on this again I will try to find a wreath and will definitely crop the clouds!   Posted: 01/22/2025 01:52:24

Hi Suzy, I like all the work you have shown in this image. Your creative assets will be something I will be able to learn from. I hope your future descriptions will include more information on how you did it. i.e. how you created your tree, snow and cloud brushes, why you made the bushes gray in the front of the building, etc.
This image is nice, the masking top notch, but would benefit from a more lived in destination. The cold scene, plus a delapidated building leaves me cold and gloomy, which I don't think was your intent.

Thank you Bob for your comments. Being new to the group - I'm not sure how much anyone plays with all the tools in photoshop - but I spend a-LOT of time going down rabbit holes when i get on YouTube. I love to learn and love to experiment with different settings. That being said... brushes are one of my faves! Photoshop has a lot of brushes and I also make some of my brushes. The trees are made from brushes - they are called "concept" brushes. Concept brushes offer all kids of shapes. But you can also use your images and turn them into a solid black image and then create a brush.   Posted: 01/22/2025 02:00:37
