About the Image(s)

I took this image last month at Point Defiance Japanese Gardens in Tacoma WA. I used my Nikon Z8 handheld from my seated walker. I processed the original in LR and PS. I then added the ship from a previous composite I made from a 2022 photo of a model boat that I have on top of my entertainment wall.
I then used the Liquify, Poster Edges, and Ocean Ripple filters to create the impressionist look I wanted. I added a levels layer, and a gradient for unifying color.

Bob,
Sounds like you went to a lot of work to create this. Maybe because of my macular degeneration I am having a problem finding the ship in the final image. Can you give me more information about where it would be? In any case, it becomes an abstract with many flowing lines, probably from the liquify filter, and is quite interesting. I also like the original of the Japanese garden.. Perhaps you sent the wrong final to Ian, or please let me know because the schooner looks like it would be sure remarkable added to the image.   Posted: 11/06/2024 19:23:38

Thank you, Joan. I'm not sure when you looked at the image, as I failed to give Ian proper directions for posting. He has since corrected my display, and you might need to refresh your screen. I am attaching a highlighted image to show you where the ship lives. Unfortunately, I deliberately melded it into the water as an added attraction (I hope.)   Posted: 11/11/2024 14:54:31

Bob - I really like your original - it's almost altered reality, without any changes.
My only suggestion is to simplify it a bit. See my cropped version.

Thanks, Gunter. Thank you for your suggestions. The crop takes out my red and white "S" curve. Do you see that being a good thing? It sets the image up for a ping-pong effect between elements.   Posted: 11/11/2024 14:48:23

For me, the additional swirls took some of the focus away from the main points of interest.   Posted: 11/11/2024 15:03:54

A lot of work here but the ship has been obscured by the other effects which have seen used. Perhaps this is a case where you have just gone a little overboard, sometimes it is difficult to stop. Gunters crop makes a more balanced image.   Posted: 11/11/2024 12:29:53

Thanks, Ian. Yes the ship was obscured as I told Joan. but I hoped the white swirls would give the viewer a reason to explore and find the ship (the third element.)   Posted: 11/11/2024 14:52:23

This is another instance where I like one of the originals (No3) much better that the finished image. I don't think the swirly bit helps and, especially since it's red, demands too much attention. But I love original No3.   Posted: 11/13/2024 15:19:07

Thank you, Robin. Unfortunately, the original does not meet the criteria for Creative, does it?   Posted: 11/13/2024 17:04:44

On the contrary - in Original No3 you have merged a backround and twirled the water where the ship is 'moving'. These things make it creative, for me. As has been discussed here before, the term 'creative' is open to many interpretations but I do feel you have met the criteria in Original No3 by altering the reality of the base photograph.   Posted: 11/17/2024 08:37:54

Original #3 hangs on my wall but was not submitted this month. I have already won exhibitions with it, so it isn't an image I can submit to DD. I am happy you enjoyed it. It is a composite of a model ship I have, Snoqualmie Falls, and some use of filters. It is indeed a creative image.
I misread your comment and thought you referred to my original image taken at Kubota Gardens. I'm moving into an independent living facility, and the move is making me anxious, plus selling our home. My apologies.   Posted: 11/17/2024 10:43:13
