Interesting Door - Doors to the Beyond by Barbara Friedman

September 2023 - Interesting Door - Doors to the Beyond

About the Image(s)

I first noticed these doors along a stretch of highway in upstate New York about 25 years ago. At the time, each door was a different color, and there were no weeds growing in front of them. I haven’t been this way in several years, and while I wasn’t surprised the doors were still there, I was a little dismayed at the decay that’s taken place.

Look at ALL those interesting doors. What a find! When you went on your scavenger hunt for a door, you hit the jackpot. Your image is special because of the multiple doors and even the nature surroundings. Your image tells a story with its environmental element.

The reason I think my added vignette is helpful is because it takes your image from the realm of a snapshot to more of a painting where the eye sees the doors and grasses but doesn't wander out of the image. The Photoshop vignette is -37 in the Raw Filter. Hopefully, just enough to focus the eye where you want it to be without making the darkened area noticeable as a darker area.

I'm sorry to announce that this is Barbara's last month as a PSA member, and therefore a member of our study group. Thank you for all your previous photos along the way. We wish you well and good photographing!   Posted: 09/15/2023 14:55:16

Great image and what a find! As Carole says a really environmental photo of the doors...so much interest to look at. I might have cropped a bit closer so cropping a bit of the top.
I like Carole's vignette and makes the doors stand out.
Have enjoyed looking at your photos Barbara so wish you well.   Posted: 09/18/2023 12:42:38

Ah, time marches on. This looks like a crop from a larger image (the proportion of width to height). I tried cropping, but your composition is best. The only suggestion is to play with hue/saturation. Darken the greens and yellows; saturate the cyan, blue, and magenta to make the doors more dominant. Barbara, you have always been a very helpful commentor for Group 12. I have learned a lot from you. We all wish you well in the future.   Posted: 09/18/2023 14:03:24

Hello Barbara: This image is so fascinating with the doors just stuck out in a lot of vegetation. They make one begin to imagine what they were at one time or if some kids were making an elaborate fort. I love it. I like the color enhancement that Connie made and the vignette that Carole added. Otherwise I don't have anything to add, except that I will miss having you in the group. The act of sharing our most heartfelt images and giving positive critiques to one another, makes me feel so close to our members. I hate to see you go, but I wish you much happiness and good health in whatever you decide to pursue.   Posted: 09/18/2023 15:21:49

Barbara, what a great image to submit as your final one. I agree with the other members critiques, especially the vignette and perhaps cropping a little from the top. I'm so glad that you still had this in your file.

Hope you see many more subjects to photograph. Wishing you well.   Posted: 09/19/2023 11:23:05
