“We are old, we are bold, and our message must be told…”
I listened to these women sing in front of St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, Scotland on May 30, 2025, protesting war, specifically killing in Gaza.

More about Raging Grannies from their website:
“The delights of grannying include: dressing like innocent little old ladies so we can get close to our target, writing songs from old favourites that skewer modern wrongs, satirizing evil-doing in public and getting everyone singing about it, watching a wrong back down and turn tail and run, sharing a history with other women who know who they are and what they’re about. Grannying is the least understood yet most powerful weapon we have. Sometimes, looking back, we can see grannying was the only thing that could have met the need.”

What a nice, peaceful-looking, ladylike protest! I feel I can hear them singing. You caught them with their mouths open, and so I think I hear their singing! Lately, I have been watching documentaries on the History channel and learning a lot about wars throughout the history of human beings. Seems as if war is part of the nature of human beings. Still can't figure out why, but they've been doing it since history began. What a shame! Wish it were the complete opposite! The photo here holds my interest. I've spent time looking at al the signs and the ladies' expressions. And admiring the buildings too! Nice even lighting for the image.   Posted: 12/09/2025 00:11:30

Thanks for your comments Carole. If women ruled the world, our civilization would be based on peace, as no mother would want her child to be killed in war.   Posted: 12/14/2025 03:20:15

Bunny - This is where I love having a title included with the image and believe that it just strengthens the image. Members in my camera club have an ongoing debate over providing image titles to judges in advance of the actual competition night.
Not sure if you had a little room on the right to create a bit more space...maybe not. I love the background creating a frame around the protestors. Nicely composed.

My camera club has had the same debate, but we get to use a title. The judges seem smart enough to separate the title from the photographic merits of the image. I think titles are helpful as well as instructive to the viewer.
I had no room on the right. There were people watching and no good place to crop without leaving a random leg or arm. As it is, I had to remove an appendage. Perhaps instead I should crop tighter on the left to make it look as if the tight crop is intentional!   Posted: 12/14/2025 03:24:04

You have captured the emotion and story in this image perfectly. As Carole says you can almost hear the singing! They all seem very passionate about their protest. Nice backdrop too which gives a sense of history. I also feel a title accompanying an image is important to help direct the viewer.   Posted: 12/15/2025 17:04:41
