I had just purchased my Tamron lens and was eager to see how it would pair with my D700 in a low light situation. I must say for being at 6400 ISO I think it did a great job. I was going to try and do the traditional bowl on the table still life shot, but I thought this was still applicable and looked good from my perspective so I figured I would throw it out there for some comments.
Attached is a photo of the settings for the picture and equipment used.

Welcome, Jarrod! We appreciate your creativity! I like your idea of using a book for a still life. How imaginative to photograph it in that horizontal position on a bookshelf. At first look, I was more distracted by the brightness of the extra bookshelf areas. Then, I realized the title was centered. I tried working with each situation. I decided that the Bible was emphasized the most when I cropped to an off-centered title, as shown in my sample photo below. I also added some contrast to it.
