About the Image(s)
I took this photo a couple of months ago, when the trees were still bare for a photography class I was taking. The assignment was to take a photo of a “found still life” that included some landscape from outside. This is a Russian Soviet era chess set I bought on e-Bay to give to my son for his next birthday; he loves to play chess. To me this photo speaks of hours spent inside whiling away the day on a cold winter’s day.

I love this idea of a window sill still life. Your class's assignment was much tougher than ours. I wouldn't know how to include a landscape in a still life. I, too, see the story of playing chess in your image. I also feel a mood. It is lonely and cold. Great image for the cover of a mystery novel or the story behind a movie! My only suggestion for improvement would be to remove the venetian blinds cord at the right side of the window. I don't think it adds anything. It might even distract from the graphic design of the the bare tree branches.   Posted: 05/12/2025 18:39:41
