About the Image(s)
I took this photo in March of 2020 at the Atlanta Aquarium, a place I highly recommend to anyone who has the opportunity. I was standing behind a railing on a walkway, and watching the viewers right next to the tank take photos. I loved the silhouettes against that bright blue background and of course the whale and its followers. I’ve forgotten what kind of whale it was, and wish I knew more about why all those other fish would swim with it. I particularly liked the repetitive lines of those on the left with their arms all angled the same way as they took videos.

This composition makes it an easy photo to look at and comprehend. There's a group of the main fish. Then the group of people all posing about the same way. I laughed when I saw everyone holding a phone-camera! That's what tourists look like nowadays. So different from a couple decades ago! This image almost looks like you purposely chose and placed those size people to make the spectator silhouette. The lighting has no glare distractions. Perfect for the aquarium's brochure!   Posted: 01/09/2025 20:30:44

Thanks Carole. This aquarium was particularly well lit and seemed easy to photograph with no reflections anywhere, which made me wonder if they designed it at least partly with photography in mind.   Posted: 01/19/2025 22:09:27

I love this Nancy. A couple of suggestions...I might have darkened the the small girl and the man second from the right a bit more to become true silhouettes. I also might play with the contrast and/or dehaze sliders to make the lighter colored fish more distinct. The only other suggestion is to remove the fish that are cut off on the right and left edges.

Thank you Lisa. Good catch on the silhouettes on the right and I also see your point about the little girl. This might be a good photo to go back and play with a little more.   Posted: 01/19/2025 22:11:51

Great image that really tells a story with the people at the bottom using cell phones to take pictures.   Posted: 01/19/2025 18:19:45

This is fascinating. It almost looks as if the people are in the tank with the fish. This was a real exposure challenge. You were right to expose for the tank; the people are more affective as silhouettes. And the grouping couldn't have been better if it was posed. Some of the fish following the whale are looking for food morsels. Some just like to hang out with the big guys in order to intimidate other big guys who might eat them.   Posted: 01/20/2025 20:20:11

Thanks Connie. It was won of the more enjoyable places I've photographed in.   Posted: 01/20/2025 21:35:11
