About the Image(s)

Here is our local warthog which I found at the Kansas City Zoo. I thought this view showed off "her" beautiful hair. She reminds me of someone who has just dressed up, had a manicure, and is posing for a portrait. My editing consisted of removing a few distracting details in the background and then accentuating the animal with the Texture slider in Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop. But this was a jpg image to begin with. I realize the composition is static, but I can't think of a different angle when at a zoo. Any ideas?

One must make do with the available angels in a zoo. You really wouldn't want to be in the pen with this lady. She really does look like she is posing for a runway shot. You did a good job bringing out the foreground while keeping the background subdues. This would probably be a good shot for the zoo's website.   Posted: 01/08/2025 19:52:51

It looks as if the warthog was posing just for you! I like that you were able to capture that little red glow in his eyes. Bringing out the texture was a good move.

The problem with a zoo is that it is difficult to do more than a portrait. You've done a great one. But I don't know how you'd get the warthog to exhibit different behavior. You might consider a different angle where you could fill the frame with just the face.   Posted: 01/09/2025 02:50:42

I forgot to "work the subject" and take various views such as zooming in. A zoo is a good place to use very long telephoto, for sure. Next time! Thanks for the reminder.   Posted: 01/26/2025 21:44:27

That must be the most goodlooking (and such a refined ladylike pose) that i have ever seen! Makes a change from the ones i take out on the safari plains. It really does look as if she had just come out of a beauty parlour. This is a very good portrait and the detail thoughout is sharp and captivating.   Posted: 01/14/2025 22:26:33

I hadn't thought of how clean and neat she looked as compared to her being photographed in her natural, non-zoo environment. Good point! She was sufficiently scary in person! I appreciated her hairdo and manicure only when looking at the photo!   Posted: 01/26/2025 21:41:51

The warthog is very sharp and I, too, like the glint of color in her eye. I might try to tone down the rock she is standing using a mask in LR and crop us from the bottom a bit to above the smaller embedded rocks. I like Bunny's though about a tight crop filling the space with the face. She certainly knows how to strike a pose!   Posted: 01/17/2025 22:35:35

This is a very well-executed photo from lots of different perspectives. Framed nicely, the pose you caught keeps me looking at the photo. Great focus, and full of many different textures. There is not a lot of color in it, but it doesn't matter because all those textures differentiate different areas of the photo well. This might look good in black & white as well, but I wonder if the eyes would be as compelling. Great image!   Posted: 01/19/2025 21:41:01
