About the Image(s)
This was a result of experimenting with the flash in daylight. I wanted an image of the petals and water droplets on the petals with a higher degree of contrast. So I used a hard light from an SB600 flash diffused with a small diffuser. the flash was not mounted on the camera but it was handheld to produce the effect of directional light. I wanted to darken the background to near black with a hint of green, so the exposure parameters were chosen accordingly. The camera used was a D7200 with a Tamron f2.8 Macro lens.

Nice job of describing your vision and then executing it. I like the focus on the upper petals with all the water droplets. It's interesting to see where the in-focus areas of the flower are compared to the areas that are not quite in focus. For example, the upper half of the center of the flower (slightly OOF) compared to the lower half of the center (in focus), while the petals in the upper half are in focus compared to the lower petals (OOF).
Playing with some focus stacking then doing selective masking in post to keep focus areas consistent might be something to try with a later image. I hope that makes sense.   Posted: 11/05/2024 20:41:07

I love the uniqueness of this flower photo. The water drops really stand out nicely. So do the pretty yellow colors. Probably thanks to the use of a flash. I like your experiment. I am accustomed to the look of flowers photographed in sunlight or shade. As I was looking around the flower, I did notice a difference in sharpness that didn't seem to be due to the distance from the camera. I attributed it to something the flash might have done to the f-stop?   Posted: 11/12/2024 19:31:19

I really like this image...the water drops make it. I also like the symmetry. I am, however, a "close cropper," and I might crop up from the bottom to just below the center of the flower.   Posted: 11/12/2024 19:36:42
