About the Image(s)
We have several hibiscus shrubs in our yard, providing an abundance of photo ops. The exposure for this image left a great deal to be desired. But it gave me an opportunity to do some experimenting in Lightroom. I ended up pushing it to the limits, giving it a bit of an ethereal artificial tone.

Hi Jim,
I like the rich color of the hibiscus. It really pops with your background. Very nice composition. Lightroom has a lot of new features.

Jim, your hibiscus is tack sharp all around. Hibiscus' are a tough flower to get the exposure right because of all their folds and s. You managed to get it looking great. I always struggle with the hot spots on their edges. At an aperture of f/13, your background might be a bit busy as the bud behind the flower attracts my attention as does all the lines and patterns in the green foliage. I would suggest maybe darkening down the bud a bit more or maybe even clone it out completely. Did you know that the hibiscus is a favorite of deer? I have one planted at my front door that the deer frequent fairly regularly. It hasn't been able to bloom in over 2 years but I keep it there hoping they stay away from my other flowers.   Posted: 09/19/2023 07:14:01
Hi, Jim!
I think you have created an edgy, fun version of a Hibiscus flower experimenting with this capture in Lightroom. I, too, enjoy seeing the rich dark color of this version of the opening bloom and the play of light on the anther.
As, Karen mentions, further darkening the background would be something to explore.   Posted: 09/19/2023 12:01:25

Lovely Hot pink Hibiscus. I like how you took a photo of one that isn't open. It gives the flower more shadows. Makes me want to peek inside. I too think that the background could be darkened some.   Posted: 09/19/2023 23:24:43
