About the Image(s)

To be totally honest, I am not certain whether this is a Larikeet or a King Parrot. At any rate I was able to record this beautiful animal while a grant study tour in Australia. I was amazed at the abundance of these birds during a rest stop outside of Melbourne.
Exposure was made with my Nikon D100. Settings were: ISO 400 f/4.5 @ 1/50 sec.

I used to have a lorikeet. I do think it's a King Parrot. Both a native to Australia. You are lucky you got it to hold still. I think I like the original photo better. It seems to have less glare. I would have tried to toned down the area it's sitting on.   Posted: 07/10/2025 19:43:39

Hi James, Lovely capture, and not an easy shot - they sure move their heads a lot! This is a wonderful color study. The differences in color between the top of head and shadowy breast are very good. You caught his pose nicely and the eye is sharp. I might have removed the distracting light circles behind him, and taken the 'blue' down just a tiny bit.
Love it - I wanna go there and sheet these guys! -Melissa   Posted: 07/11/2025 20:12:31
