Jack Rabbit by James Silliman

February 2025 - Jack Rabbit

About the Image(s)

While relaxing on my front porch in San Antonio, Texas I made this exposure of what I believe to be a young Jack Rabbit feeding in my yard. Exposure was made with my Nikon D100 with a long lens. Focal length was 300mm at f/5.6 and an ISO 400. Minor adjustments were made in LR.

How did you ever get this bunny to hold still. Even their nose is constantly moving. Great detail in those ears. Even a catch in the eye. I think the f/5.6 worked nicely for you. If I have to find something to comment on it would be to have left a little more room at the top of the image. 1 more inch would have done it. Good job.   Posted: 02/11/2025 19:32:21

Thank you Lori. Yes, it is hard to get those guys to sit long enough for a good exposure. I guess it was my lucky day. Speaking of luck, I had that one inch in the original. How is this?   Posted: 02/11/2025 20:30:00

I like the 1" room you have at the top. Now I feel like the room around both of its ears are balanced. Good job.   Posted: 02/12/2025 21:16:29

Love it! Looks like he/she is posing. I also like the soft background that the long lens gives you. Nice!   Posted: 02/18/2025 00:02:01

Awwww. He is just perfect - beautiful pose, no motion, room to look into, you can see both ears and whiskers, and there is even a catch light in his eye. The only thing that might enhance the image is a tiny bit of sparkle on his coat. He is just beautiful.   Posted: 02/19/2025 21:50:04
