About the Image(s)
The Honolulu Museum of Modern Art (HoMA) exhibits a fantastic collection of art treasures. Several hallways in the museum feature large modern artistic Ikebana arrangements.
I was delighted with the color palette of this one and tried to register a small section on the camera in my mobile phone (iPhone SE -v.2, rear camera: 399mm (in 35mm = 28mm), 1/45 sec, f/1.8, ISO 320).

The colors on this arrangement are wonderful. Parts of the arrangement are a little soft though. I would have like to have more focus on the center of the flower. Not sure what it's called. iPhone are improving all the time. I'm still learning techniques with mine.   Posted: 02/11/2025 19:42:41
Anthurium's are one of my favorites. I agree that the colors are great. I didn't realize that you could get all the camera data on the iphone. I will have to look that up.   Posted: 02/18/2025 00:07:49
Charissa - this small section makes the viewer want to see more because of the beautiful colors of this plant. I think the phone image is very nice - good textures and shadows. I love today's phones - they are so handy. A camera lens would have probably allowed us to see more of the plant, and allow a crop to eliminate some of the cream-colored empty space.   Posted: 02/19/2025 21:55:40
Japanese Ikebana is an art form in itself. It is based on the idea of using flower arrangement to bring nature and people closer together. The concept relies on shapes and colors, simplicity, symbolism and Asymmetry to accomplish the objective of the art form.
Your choice of colors is very soothing. I like the blending of the pinks, purples and green is very nice. I like the way everything is sharp, showing the totality of the arrangement.
My only suggestion would be to soften the lighting on the arrangement. You could accomplish this with a defector that would soften those shadows.
You have successfully brought together the Japanese art of flower arranging and photography. Very nice image Charissa.   Posted: 02/20/2025 03:06:34
