Orange Hibiscus by Charissa Lansing

January 2025 - Orange Hibiscus

About the Image(s)

I was playing pickleball with my grandsons in Florida and stopped to admire a lovely orange hibiscus flower Fortunately, I had my phone and good light to take a photo.
Taken hand-help with an iPhone SE using the following settings: 1/150sec, f/1.8, ISO 20.

Beautiful hibiscus! I don't think I have seen one that is a double before. Only suggestion I might have is add a little more contrast. Nice.   Posted: 01/08/2025 20:37:14

Elegant! I love the color and texture of the photo. You did a great job of keeping it in its natural setting and obscuring the background.   Posted: 01/10/2025 21:57:48

Charissa - amazing crispness for ISO 20. It's a lovely image with beautiful light and focus - I especially find the textures of both the flower and also the leaves behind it very good. For me, I would love to see some of those leaves cloned into that lower right area with the soil - it would complete the bouquet.   Posted: 01/12/2025 17:29:27

This is a lovely capture of a beautiful hibiscus. I like how you compose the flower within the image. I might suggest darkening the leaves a bit so that they appear a deeper green. I would also clone out the pebbles below the flower or darken them down so that they are not distracting from the flower.   Posted: 01/12/2025 19:25:01

Hi Charissa! Lovely Flower Portrait!

No cloning. Next time try to position yourself differently, or chose another set of Hibiscus. Nonetheless, the featured work presents wonderful depth, texture and just enough detail to not be too overpowering, in my opinion.

Alternatively, conversion to Black and White may offer you opportunities to resolve the "space" (in the lower right) others are commenting about. Just a thought.   Posted: 01/16/2025 12:10:34
