I wish my nails and fingers looked like that! Mine are rather more battered.

I love the skin texture, and the nail is nice and sharp. The depth of field is adequate, althought I'd crop out some of the soft skin on the left, there's too much for me. Nice background.

But what are the dark outlines at the top and bottom edges of the finger? They look quite odd and distracting.

But I've got to say, the best (macro) camera in the world is the one you've got with you (with a macro accessory lens) :-)

I guess I oversharpened, causing the dark lines. My focus was on the nail and area surrounding.   Posted: 09/08/2023 15:19:32

How interesting!! The texture gives it almost a "comic book" treatment look. I like it!

I'm not sure what created those dark edges, and there are a few "soft" areas, but it just adds to that special effect look. The diagonal works well for this, and you've got great detail and texture against a nice soft background in a good color for this skin tone.   Posted: 09/07/2023 17:39:11

Hi Tom, amazing what you can get with smart phones. I also like the colors and background. The texture is interesting - does look a bit unnatural to my eyes, but I see what Carol means by the "comic book" look.   Posted: 09/08/2023 15:13:56

I wasn't really going for a look, actually. I wanted the focus to be on the nail and surrounding cuticle.   Posted: 09/08/2023 15:21:18

Hey Tom, I like your creativity of photographing your own finger.. Impressive sharp picture even by handholding your phone with macro attachment... Like the clear in-focus texture.
Yep, the dark edge could be resulted from over-contrasting the selected area. I usually select more feathering while selecting the area for sharpening to avoid such side-effect.   Posted: 09/09/2023 21:20:20

You’re so right. I rather rushed this one.   Posted: 09/11/2023 12:02:15

Technically great focus on the nail, showing all the striations and imperfections. Lots of detail in surrounding skin. Good work for a SmartPhone.   Posted: 09/28/2023 19:35:13
