My Monkey by Marianne Barnhardt

May 2023 - My Monkey

About the Image(s)

I took this photo at the zoo last month. This little girl waited for the monkey to come to her. Once it did she kept saying, " Monkey Mine". I was shooting at the zoo with my Sony a9 24-240 lens. This was in a dark alcove with a terrible reflection but so adorable.

Fabulous! I love how the girl and monkey are mirroring each other. Is the green on the monkey from a reflection? Is there any way to remove it or tone it down since it looks a little artificial?   Posted: 05/09/2023 10:01:47

Hi Beth, this was a quick shot before everyone jumped in so the green is reflection. I see that Chuck tried it in black and white and I love it! Thanks so much.   Posted: 05/24/2023 07:05:17

Agree, so adorable it is a great street shot. To me the girls dress is too bright and takes over. This one is a great candidate for BW so I took it into Luminar Neo and converted it. That brought out more detail of the monkey and solved the wonkey green. Just another point of view.   Posted: 05/09/2023 12:09:27

I think that your B&W version works very well.

I love this Chuck. I do not have that program but would love to try to change it so I can use it in a project I am working on with kids. Thanks so much!!   Posted: 05/24/2023 07:06:06

Hi Marianne, I agree with Beth. I think this is a great image the interaction between the girl and the monkey. The bright green is quite a distraction, I think that you could probably rectify that in LR or Photoshop. I think that you handled this nicely.   Posted: 05/10/2023 11:02:25

Thank you Lou!! I love the black and white version. It was a fun capture. I was actually shooting 200 kids from a school that day and stumbled here.   Posted: 05/24/2023 07:07:49

The monkey has an expressionate face, that's for sure. The black and white is good, because of the green and because we can focus on the interaction between the two. Good shot. In a way, the eyes have it - the little tot with the sunnies and the monkey's eyes. :D   Posted: 05/23/2023 00:02:09

Thanks Susan. I thought the sunglasses really made the shot. I wondered what she was seeing at that age with sunglasses. :-)   Posted: 05/24/2023 07:09:11
