Pileated Woodpecker by Bob Feldberg

May 2023 - Pileated Woodpecker

About the Image(s)

This is a pileated woodpecker (like Woody!) taken in Ocala Florida
Sony A1 at 600 mm f6.3 and 1/2000. ISO was 8000. Perhaps I should have lowered the shutter speed for a perched bird but I was doing BIF and did not want to risk missing the shot. Topaz Denoise seem to work well. Cropped and adjusted the highlights and shadows.

Bob, I really like the way you captured the bird. For small birds I actually use 1/3000 or 1/4000 sutter speed (depending on the light). I think cropping the on the top and getting rid of all the white will make this image stronger. I would also increase contrast on the woodpecker.   Posted: 05/16/2023 06:59:49

I agree you could crop a little tighter on the top. It does feel like the woodpecker and tree trunk are still a little soft. I do like that we are seeing this bird in its environment.   Posted: 05/22/2023 14:16:50
