About the Image(s)

I took this image on an island near Venice, Italy. The vibrant colors and the idea of hanging your umbrella on the side of your house made me laugh! Is this an interesting image?

Settings: Sony RX-100, 41mm, 1/320 sec, f 6.3, ISO 125, hand held. I used LRC sliders in post processing.

Very cool shot. Where was this taken ? The rich red wall that could almost be adobe ( i think ) and the blue makes it a photo of great imagination.

If we could have some direction in the photo of where the eyes should go may be good.

I think you need a similar window, or something on the right side of the umbrella that would connect the window with , perhaps, another window on the right side of the building.

I love the texture and color.

Thanks for the commens. I took the picture on the island of Burano, which is under the jurisdiction of Venice, IT. It is known for all of the shops and houses having strong colors like this! Good idea about having a window on the right, but there was no window on the right.   Posted: 09/10/2023 22:37:16

Hi David,
Yes, I think this is an very good minimalist image that captures the viewers interest straight away.
The colours and strong forms in the image are striking.
I have taken the liberty to download and very quickly play with your image, as noted in the PDD guidlines, I hope that was OK.
You can see from my rushed edit, that I have taken the minimalism even further by removing a few of the smaller details, and thrown a slight vignette around the edges. I think this makes the image a bit stronger.
I think this is a nice composition, well cropped an well captured.   Posted: 09/10/2023 19:54:10

Thanks for taking time to play with my image! I like taking out the eletrical conduit. It adds nothing. What are teh PDD guidelines?   Posted: 09/10/2023 22:39:11

Good question David. I had assumed that as this was not a competition entry that it would be OK to modify.
I apologise if that was wrong.
I will check out what the ruling is here and see if it is OK to do this sort of thing.

I think the answer to the rules question here s that it is entered in a Travel competition, no cloning is allowed. If it rntered in an Open Color competition, most retiuching is allowed.

David, I just love the use of complementary colors here. It's a very calming soothing image and the incongruity of the upturned umbrella adds a whimsical touch.   Posted: 09/14/2023 18:57:11

I like the simplicity of the image and the contrast between the window and the umbrella elements to the monocolored wall. I asked myself if there were actually two images here, the umbrella as one and the window as another. I do not believe that to be the case. These two elements provide a balance that singly would not be there. The water pipe is a minor distraction and the photo is improved with its removal. Fortunately, the water pipe is the same color as the wall and does not stand out. If it were a contrasting color I think it would have been significant distraction. Well done and thanks for sharing.   Posted: 09/15/2023 23:55:56
