Robert Knight
About the Image(s)
This is an example of medieval monastic architecture at Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire. The abbey dates back to the1200s and has had several owners and uses since then. It started as a nunnery and later became a Tudor family home. In 1835 it was owned by William Henry Fox Talbot who captured the first photographic negative and there is a museum at the abbey telling the story. My image was taken at 1/60 sec, f4 and ISO 1600. I added a bit of contrast and clarity, straightened the verticals and cropped it slightly.

Robert, I love the great architecture of this medieval castle with its vaulted arch ceilings. You don't see that around here. And, the fact that it has existed for 800 years is incredible. But, the most remarkable feature is knowing that this picture was taken by a Knight! Sorry about that. Seriously, the lighting is beautiful, and the dark cauldron adds a key focus to the image. Although I love the monotone color in the picture, I wonder if it would also work in B&W. Outstanding picture!   Posted: 05/05/2023 16:50:57
Ooops! I posted Robert's final image twice instead of the original. If I change now, we will lose the comments. I will be more careful next time.
This is a wonderful image composed thoughtfully. Love the lighting and arches, as well as the subtle colors. You controlled the exposure very well. I agree with David, that this would also make a nice monochrome image. Well done!   Posted: 05/06/2023 09:25:34

Both the original and your edited version are fine. Interesting bit of photo history, too. If only the walls could talk!   Posted: 05/15/2023 20:18:21
At first I felt that the black cauldron should be more the focus but it you moved in closer for the shot you would lose the beautiful window and the cool doorway behind the post on the left. With the lines on the ceiling and the columns on either side it is really nicely composed. Good job!   Posted: 05/29/2023 10:46:30
I like the projected night and casting the showdown on the floor. The vaulted celling and the medieval style of the windows are very appealing to me.   Posted: 05/30/2023 06:19:51
