May 2023 - Great Blue Heron

About the Image(s)

This was taken a few weeks ago when the Herons were nest building. They are almost done with that chore now and are ready for eggs and chicks. I will be looking forward to little heads popping up from the nests soon.
1/250 at f/10 and ISO 100. Shot with a 70-300 lens at about 220mm.

WOW Bruce, LOVE this bird. Great leading line. Sharp eye. Great details in the feathers and in the next.   Posted: 05/09/2023 23:24:22

The crop is excellent! B&W is a good choice. The eye is sharp and has a highlight. The branch on the left is quite a leading line. You have all the tones here. I like the contrast provided by the feathers on chest and back. There is quite a bit of noise. I have found the Topaz Noise filter to be excellent.   Posted: 05/10/2023 11:29:10

What a striking image, Bruce. The range of tones throughout is breathtaking. I like how the line of the branch is parallel to the feeling I get from the feathers on the bird. The background is creamy and perfect, the textures of the branch and our friend's feathers are allowed to be appreciated. I always hear people critique wildlife pictures and point out the importance of seeing the subject's eye. I get it now. You caught the eye here, and it's tack-sharp. I really love this choice.
